The Angel Fund is a special fund at the shelter to help with expensive medical bills from special rescue cases. Please see Mollie's story and you'll see why we try to help the way we do!
Running scared, hungry, in pain from all the sores on her body, a little 7 pound stray Yorkie is picked up and brought to another shelter. She is diagnosed with Demodex Mange, bad teeth, not spayed or vaccinated. 1 week later, she is considered unadoptable, her time is up. We receive a phone call and asked if we would take her because we are her last chance.
Barry gets to the other shelter and there this tiny little girl looks up at him, licks his face and begs for help. He calls me and asked if I could help. How can we not. She has the worst case of Mange we have EVER seen. Her hair is embedded into her skin from blood, her eyes are almost closed shut, yet she still wags her little tail.
After we take her to the vet, she is placed on meds for her Mange and a secondary skin infection. I have to give her a medicated bath every day to loosen up the hair and to clean off the huge scabs on her body. On her 1st bath, I gently sprayed her with water. Her tiny little face looked up at me to say "Thank You". She tears at my heart and I cried to think that if we didn't help her, she would have never known what it was like to be loved.
Mollie is in her 3rd week of treatment. Her hair is all shaved off, her eyes clear and she even had a dental. We still have a ways to go. She will still need to be spayed and vaccinated.
I know some people will ask, "Why do we help"?. The answer is simple. At Pike County Humane Society we are a family of humans brought together to help and care for all animals that have no one to care for them. It is our mission in life, but we need your help. You are the angels that help us help them. For this reason, we are begging for your help with her medical needs. Please find it in your heart to donate and help this precious angel.
